SCHOLARSHIP

My research examines a common underlying question:

I approach that question across dispute resolution, psychology, institutional design, education, and emerging technological challenges.

“How can people, communities, and institutions become more capable of acting constructively in the face of conflict, difference, and change?”

Conflict, Mediation & Self-Efficacy

My doctoral research examined peer mediation in refugee shelters from the perspective of the participants themselves. Using grounded theory, the study identified self-efficacy as the core category connecting participants’ experiences. The findings suggested that peer mediation could do more than provide a mechanism for resolving disputes: participation could create meaningful roles, strengthen confidence and conflict competence, generate trust, and enable community members to assume greater responsibility for conflicts affecting them.

Current Research

My current work builds on these strands to examine what conflict processes leave people, communities, and institutions capable of doing afterward. I am particularly interested in the relationship between self-efficacy, agency, conflict capacity, and the conditions that enable meaningful participation.
