I study how people, communities, and institutions become more capable in conflict.
Conflict is usually approached as a problem to solve.
My work begins with a broader question:
That question has followed me across different settings, from legal education and mediation to work with communities, universities, and organizations in the United States and internationally.
In 2017, I founded R3SOLUTE, an online platform that brings together practical tools, frameworks, and insights to support people working on conflict and social cohesion around the world.
R3SOLUTE was born out of my experience working with refugee communities in Germany and my conviction that high-quality, accessible resources can help individuals, communities, and institutions navigate conflict in more constructive and inclusive ways.
Through R3SOLUTE, I share resources that translate research and practice into tools that can be applied in real-world settings, supporting stronger relationships, more resilient communities, and more cohesive societies.
As a scholar, I explore conflict, human agency, self-efficacy, bias, education, and the changing role of people and institutions in an age of polarization and artificial intelligence.
As a professor, trainer, mediator, and conflict strategist, I bring these ideas into real-world settings. That means moving from insight to action. I work with organizations and communities to understand what is driving a conflict or recurring challenge and co-develop practical tools, strategies, and conversations that support stronger relationships, more resilient communities, and more cohesive societies.
I am a Professor of Law and Practice at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution and a former Research Fellow with the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.
My work moves deliberately between scholarship and practice: research informs what I design and implement, and practice continually challenges and strengthens the questions I study.
Across all of it, I keep returning to the same question:
